Celebrating 90 Years of Ansett’s First Flight in Hamilton

Hamilton is getting ready to celebrate a huge milestone in Australian aviation history.

On Sunday 15 February 2026, the Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum and Hamilton Airport will host a special community event marking the 90th Anniversary of Ansett Airways’ first flight, along with 35 years of the Ansett Transport Museum 

It’s a big birthday, and everyone’s invited.

  • Venue: Sir Reginald Ansett Transport Museum and Hamilton Airport
  • Location: Cnr Ballarat Road and Riley Street, Hamilton VIC 3300 

What’s Happening on the Day

There’ll be plenty to see and do for aviation fans, history lovers, families and anyone keen for a relaxed day out.

On display and in action throughout the day:

  • Ansett Roadways Coach and Flxible Clipper buses
  • The 1928 Studebaker Car
  • PD4106 bus
  • A 1929 rebuilt Fokker aircraft
  • Model aircraft displays
  • Vintage hostess and pilot uniforms
  • Vintage cars and motorcycles

There’ll also be a BBQ at the airport (cash only), plus coffee vans at both the museum and the airport, so you won’t go hungry or uncaffeinated

This event isn’t just about planes and transport. It’s about celebrating the legacy of Sir Reginald Ansett, the history built right here in Hamilton, and the community that continues to support and preserve it.
